Beyond the Borders: Bosnian Sevdah & Dance

Svedah is the traditional music genre of urban town centers of old Bosnia and Herzegovina. The performance will feature sevdalinke by Bosnian performers now residing in the San Francisco Bay Area. These performers are Muhamed KocanRasima Alisic Klisturic, and Hajrudin Hajric.  They will be joined by Mary Sherhart from Seattle, Dzevad Zeric - accordion, Dzenan Gacanovic - key board and arrangments, Barbara Deutsch - clarinet.  The Bosnian dance ensembles, Kud Bosnjak and Mladost Bosne, will perform and the local vibant singers, True Life Trio

True Life Trio weaves sumptuous vocal harmonies and sultry rhythms from Eastern Europe, the Americas & beyond.   Featuring the powerful vocal talents of three dynamic performers whose musical collaboration was forged in Kitka Women’s Vocal Ensemble, the trio delves deep into a vast array of folk music that lends itself to three-part vocal harmony. As part of Beyond the Borders: Bosnian Sevdah and Dance, True Life Trio will sing classic Bosnian folk songs as well as stunning pieces from other parts of the Balkan Peninsula. True Life Trio is: Leslie Bonnett: voice, fiddle, percussion, Briget Boyle: voice, guitar,percussion, Juliana Graffagna: voice, bass, percussion
