This is the first West Coast tour of the famous Croatian dance company, Zagreb Folk Dance Ensemble. Formerly known as "Joza Vlahovic", the troupe is the largest and oldest presenter of Croatian tradtional folklore. The prize winning dance choreographies are enhanced by the ensemble's live orchestra. The group is especially revered for it's vocal work. The founder of the company, Dr. Ivan Ivancan, is noted for his attention to authenticity. The traditional costuming is richly detailed and true to the dance's region of origin. Traditional musical instruments are used. Besides the tambura (a string instrument) other instruments are featured: string instruments like ljerica, samica, dangubica, wind instruments like sopile, dvojnice, šurle, diple, windpipes like gajde, dude, mišnice, vidalice, and the drums.
