Event Details

Two provocative, highly acclaimed pianists, team up for an evening of cutting edge music for both plugged (Disklavier) and unplugged (traditional) piano. Both women play zany duets with the Disklavier itself, a modern-day player piano which springs to life in virtuosic showpieces by Bay Area composers Dan Becker and Carl Stone. The program also features brand new works by John Adams, Kyle Gann, Randall Woolf, and Tania Leon. Based on opposite coasts of the U.S., Sarah and Kathy are known as red-headed trailblazers. Together they are at the forefront of seeking the newest, most original experimental piano music of their time. Here in an unprecedented joint appearance, they introduce a range of radical new work along with two fascinating pieces that showcase the Yamaha Disklavier, which combines the acoustic grand piano with sophisticated computer technology.
